Description

A giant interstellar cloud 4,100 light years from home and 110 light years across. If our eyes could see it, the nebula would appear the size of 3 full moons across the sky.

The Lagoon nebula contains a number of Bok globules (dark collapsing clouds of protostellar material) as well as a tornado-like structure created by a single hot O-type star that emanates ultraviolet light, heating and ionizing the gases surrounding it.

Captured from a Bortle 6 sky in Victoria, Australia.
Integration Time: 3.6 hrs hours.
Lights: 13x360s Ha, 12x360s Oiii, 9x360s Sii.
RGB Stars: 7x30s Red, 8x30s Green, 7x30s Blue.

Starless version added also.
